AIEA Member Mariam Assefa, Executive Director of World Education Services (WES), was honored by Upwardly Global with its prestigious "Outstanding Leadership" award on November 16. Assefa was recognized for her "personal and professional accomplishments elevating the profile of immigrant Americans, as well as supporting diversity in the workplace." AIEA Past President Stephen Dunnett and AIEA members Miriam Assefa and Francisco Marmolejo gave invited sessions at the AMPEI Conference in Manzanillo Mexico.  At that same conference, AIEA Executive Director Darla Deardorff and AIEA member Rodolfo Hernandez gave an invited workshop on Global Leadership.  Details at

AIEA Member Samuel Shepherd
was decorated with The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, by the Emperor of Japan, on November 3, in recognition of his "contribution to strengthening of the relations between Japan and the United States through educational exchanges and internationalization of education in Japan." AIEA Institutional Members Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)
has received, the first ever in Hong Kong, Erasmus Mundus Mobility Grant (Lot 4, Action 2 Strand 2) awarded by the European Commission. The current grant of nearly EUR1.4 million will be shared by the 9 consortium partners in Europe and South East Asia in the project titled: "Multilingualism and Multiculturalism: linguistic approaches to transition and identity". AIEA Member Institutions Kennesaw State University, University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, Genesee Community College, and University of Nebraska - Lincoln received Honorable Mentions in a range of categories. contributed to Speaking Across Borders: The Role of Higher Education in Furthering Intercultural Dialogue, published by the Council of Europe. Click here for more information. These events bring recognized scholars in different disciplines to campus to interact with faculty, students, and staff over major questions of global higher education.
