The Institute of International Education announced the winners of its annual Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education. The competition, which began in 2001, recognizes American colleges that have made significant attempts to provide international experiences for their students. This year, the awards were broken down into four categories. The winners were Champlain College, in Vermont, and the AIEA institutional member University of Monterrey, in Mexico, for internationalizing the campus; AIEA institutional member Clemson University, in South Carolina, and the University of Kansas, for study abroad; AIEA institutional member Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis for international exchange partnerships; and Scottsdale Community College, in Arizona, for study abroad at a community college. Other AIEA institutional members receiving honorable mentions included Vanderbilt University and Ohio University.

Several AIEA members participated in the ACE Internationalization Collaborative including AIEA Past President Uliana Gabara who discussed faculty development and AIEA Executive Director Darla Deardorff who discussed global learning outcomes assessment . Stephen Straight and AIEA members Jen Nielsen, Kendall Brostuen, Joe Hoff, Margaret Heisel, Leo VanCleve, Megan Brenn-White, Erika Mueller-Blass, Mary Anne Grant, Brian Whalen, Michael Van De Berg and Kris Lou.

Several AIEA members will present at the Title VI 50th Anniversary Conference in Washington DC on March 19-21 including AIEA Past Presidents William Brustein, Gil Merkx and Davydd Greenwood and AIEA members Ann Imlah Schneider, Gilles Bousquet, Mark Tessler, and Johanna Watzinger-Tharp.

AIEA member Stephen Hanson was quoted in an April 10 Chronicle of Higher Education article entitled "One University's Strategy for Keeping International Partnerships Running Smoothly" (click here to the article).
